NZINGHA STEWART

BIO

Nzingha Stewart’s rise as a director has been both organic and meteoric.

Known for her photo-centric style and an adventurous conceptual approach, it was the MVPA nominated video for Bilal’s “Soul Sista,” that put Nzingha Stewart on the map. She continued to garner attention from the movers and shakers in the music world with MTV award nominated videos for rapper Common and singer Sunshine Anderson.

She followed those videos with TRL-hits for Eve, Joss Stone, Nivea, Freeway, Dashboard Confessional, and many more… Racking up experience with artists like Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, Kanye West, Macy Gray, Missy Elliott and Jay-Z along the way.

Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Atlanta, GA, Nzingha Stewart came home to New York in 1992 to attend NYU’s Gallatin School for philosophy.  Upon graduation she began to put together a reel of music videos she shot in college.

Soon, the effusive director was in demand, and she ventured into the commercial arena where she directed clips for ESPN, Coors Light, Sears, McDonald’s, MTV, and more… Her documentary "Michael Jackson: Our Icon" for BET Networks was one of the best reviewed BET shows of the year.

Recently Boards Magazine named Nzingha as one of the Top 10 Live Action Directors.  The Source Magazine named her as one of the most powerful newcomers in the music industry and Vibe Magazine featured her as an A-List director.

Nzingha has just finished a feature length script for Outlaw Entertainment, is executive producing an adaptation of "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide: When The Rainbow Is Enuf" for Lionsgate and writing "The Vow," a teleplay for Lifetime. Yet even as she branches out as a writer, we can continue expect more ground-breaking work as a director from Nzingha Stewart.
